Our Team

Few elements have the power to bond people to each other like that of coffee. For 4 neighbors, coffee and community has served as the launchpad of Houghton, New York's newest business venture. Each with full-time professions and families, this group of entrepreneurs have banded together to start a new adventure. We are Jockey Street Coffee Roasters.

Dan Wartinger
Dan is a music teacher at Letchworth Central School and has long dreamed of being part of a coffee business. A self-described coffee snob and roaster, he takes his coffee neat and black the way God intended. Dan and his amazing wife, Jess are raising 6 (yes, six) great kids and can usually be found working on yet another home renovation, chasing the family chickens back into the coop, or collapsing on the couch after a harrowing bedtime routine. Incidentally, most of these activities go great with a good cup of coffee.

Jeremy Templeton

Jeremy has spent the last two decades working in the technology field. He is married to his wife Heather, who is a Houghton alum and together they have three children, the oldest of which is the first ever student with Down Syndrome to attend Houghton college. Jeremy is a volunteer youth leader and firefighter and enjoys competing in triathlons. His favorite activity though, before an early morning lake swim, is sipping a freshly roasted cup of coffee. To all these blessings, he gives God the glory!

Joanna Bates

Joanna is married to Peter Bates, blessed as a mother to three children, and the full time General Manager of a local Inn in Houghton, NY. Prior to innkeeping, she managed the inspection and audit division of a large, global consumer product quality company. She is certified as a BRC Consumer Products Issue 4 Lead Auditor and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, certified in Risk Assessment Audits and trained in Lean initiatives. She has experience managing large teams and budgets. She also has lots of experience planning and organizing events as former Chair of an events committee for a large corporation. Joanna is passionate about quality, not only in every part of the supply chain, but in all aspects of life. She is excited to combine passion and experience in launching this business alongside fellow partners and friends.

Peter Bates
Like most of us, Peter cannot begin his day without brewing his first cup of coffee. When the opportunity arose to roast his own, he couldn't help but be excited about the endless array of fresh and high quality options for HIS morning mug. Helping others to enjoy their daily regiment more and share the experience of tasting the finest that coffee has to offer is even better. With an extensive background in sales and business development, Peter will not rest until he gives everyone in our greater community the chance to enhance their daily grind. An alum of Houghton College, he has a desire to give back to his alma mater through bringing new business to the area. Peter also loves revitalizing old structures and has lots of experience in demo from the recent renovation of his family home that he shares with his wife, Joanna, and three terrific kids.
